Server upgrade on schedule

Tue, 2 Nov 2010

You will have recently received an email about an upgrade of our website services to a new dedicated server.  This upgrade is going ahead as planned.

When?

6pm Tuesday evening Sydney time
3am Tuesday morning New York time
12am Tuesday morning Los Angeles time

What do I need to do?

If Virtual Creations is managing your domain name (note: a domain name is not the same thing as a hosting account), then you need to do nothing.

If your domain name's nameservers are set to ns1.virtualcreations.com.au and ns2.virtualcreations.com.au, then you need to do nothing.

If your domain name's nameservers are set to ns1.speedydns.net and ns2.speedydns.net, then you need to change them to:

        ns1.virtualcreations.com.au (75.126.128.2)
        ns2.virtualcreations.com.au (74.86.98.208)

You need to do this anytime after the scheduled upgrade time mentioned above.  Once you have made the change, please allow a few hours for your change to take effect.

If your domain name's nameserver are set to anything besides the above, or your are not sure who is managing your domain name, please contact us.

Other issues

There's a very small likelihood that your system setup (or the system setup of one of your colleagues) is making a reference to a server name that is about to become obsolete.  It's probably a good idea for you to also check whether your system setup makes any reference to [something].myserverhosts.com.  If it does, you will need to change this. Places to check include:
  • Your email program (Outlook, etc).  Look under "Accounts" for the incoming or outgoing mail server name
  • FTP, Dreamweaver or FrontPage setup (if you don't know what these are, then you're fine)
  • Remote SSH or MySQL access (if you don't know what these are, then you're fine)
If you see a reference to [something].myserverhosts.com, you will need to change this to your own domain name (e.g. www.mydomainname.com), or you could also change it to server1.virtualcreations.com.au, whichever you prefer.

Please forward this email on to any other persons in your organisation who you think may be affected.

Please contact us if you have any questions about this process.
